I have actually found several unopened packages of Minglo Suede as a part of an estate. This woman used to make porcelain dolls and I would like very much to find a home for this product. If anyone is interested, please contact me. I hate to have to throw them out.

Hi again, gang. Im still going through Mom's massive stash and I was hoping some of you folks could help with another goodie...

It's called Cusick's Dri-Wipe. It comes in a little glass jar. The company has no website and is apparently out of business. This was probably bought in the 1960's.

Very pretty colors, not sure if it needs to be fired on, or what. Anyone know about it?

BTW--Sis still hasn't Minglo'ed our Santa, but she DID find some fibers at I think it was Ben Franklin Crafts--made by Martha Stewart. They appear to be exactly like the Minglo's. I think they were just called "flocking fibers" and the flier showed how they could be applied to glass Xmas ornaments...

Minglo did have their own adhesive to brush on, but you can most likely get the same effect by using a brush on sealer and working on a small area at a time or by using a thinned Elmer's Glue (thin like milk). Just brush it on and then sprinkle the fibers. You must exercise care to not touch the areas until they are thoroughly dry or you will mess them up.

Also, you may want to contact Nowells Molds. They sell a similar product and the adhesive could very well be used for the Minglo.

You have a great find there. There are a lot of people who would love to get their hands on that product. Have fun with it.

Tommy Lee and others--My mom did tons of slipcasting in the late 60's-early 70's and we are going through her MASSIVE stash right now. We found a bunch of packets of this Minglo Suede in various colors. What we want to know is... how do we use it?? She didn't leave us any instructions and all my big sister can remember is that there was some kind of glue or something that you put on the bisque and then the Minglo fibers would only stick to those areas... We have a great big Santa that we want to velvetize, but we don't know how!

Any instructions you could give would be MORE than welcome!!

Tommy Lee. I've been holding off on making this reply as I was attempting to get more information first; however failing that, I want to pass on some information for you.

The product you were mentioning, formerly Minglo is back in the ceramics market. Or at least a product similar to it.

I saw this being demonstrated at a recent ceramic show but failed to pick up any literature on it. I have been in contact with the company distributing it in order to present it here on CMEZ; however they have as yet provided any further information.

I presume that may be because it is a very busy time for them, traveling to shows all across the country etc. They did get back to me and say they were in the process of fine tuning the info in order to put it on their own website and that they would get back to me; so...

Watch here and as soon as I can get more information, I'll do a write up on it OR you may come across it in your travels and visits to ceramic shows in the near future.
