Marbleize by Dipping

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

Not a “new” product, but one that may be new to you.

For an easy unfired marbleized finish on ceramic bisque or most any other item, you may want to give a try using Magic Dips.

Simply float specialized paints on surface of water and lower your piece into the surface, twisting your item as you submerge it.

Anyone, any age can make beautiful, decorative pieces.

Try combining this product and technique with other fired finishes and come up with some really spectacular designs. Use your imagination.

Have some pieces that did not quite turn out like you want or cannot be fixed? Just marbleize them, it will cover most any errors.

Great News!!!

Friday, April 17th, 2009

CAG has come to your computer. This is really exciting news. A well reputed company is starting a new website which promises to be a panacea of information and education for ceramists of all levels.

The CAG or Ceramic Artist Guild will be offering their first internet newsletter to be published on May 1, 2009.

Here is your chance to get in on the ground floor of a site and organization that is geared to help everyone who is enthusiastic about ceramics from any level. Novice, hobbyist, or professional.

Their emphasis will be on cast ceramics and adapting the old to the new. Much like I do here, but on a larger scale.

There are three levels for membership. The craftsman level is free. There is a nominal membership fee for Artist and Professional level, but it comes with additional perks.

I would like to point out that I am very proud to be spotlighted in their first issue and they will be offering one of my projects. I am very excited.

I encourage all of you to sign up before May by clicking here so that you won’t miss out on this publication. Please check it out and if you decide to sign up, tell them Majik sent you.

Kiln Sitters

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

With kilns going high tech with computerized operation, many of the older kilns are becoming dinosaurs. Owners of these older kilns are having problems finding replacement parts for the kiln sitters. In fact, manufacturers of the sitter assemblies have discontinued many of the parts.

I heard today that Skutt has purchased the rights to manufacture and sell many of these parts, it will take a few weeks before availability.

Thank heavens someone is watching over us at Skutt. Find more information about Skutt products by clicking here.
